A first-of-its-kind study by researchers at the U-M Medical School and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine explores the link between opioid use disorder and chronic pain. Daniel J. Clauw, M.D., director of the U-M Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center, explains their research on central sensitization or abnormal pain processing in the brain and spinal cord, suggesting that central sensitization may be an important underlying factor for opioid addiction.
