A new study from Michigan Medicine hopes to provide clarity on how exposure to ultraviolet light may trigger inflammation in lupus patients. J. Michelle Kahlenberg, M.D., Ph.D., senior author of the study and rheumatologist at U-M Health, highlights some of the key findings, including the link between elevated signals of interferon, a protein known to contribute to UV sensitivity, and inflammation. Khaelnberg further explains how confirming this link could be vital to determining the best treatment for lupus patients.
