U-M professor of electrical engineering and computer science David Blaauw discusses a new study looking at a species of snail with the world’s smallest complete computer, Michigan Micro Mote (M3), attached. These sensing computers are helping scientists understand “how to protect endemic species on islands,” noting the 50 species of tree snail in the South Pacific Society Islands that were wiped out besides the white-shelled Partula hyalina.
