IPF, or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, is a disease in which the lungs are greatly scarred, which leads to poor lung functioning and difficulty breathing. Many suffering from IPF are particularly susceptible to infections, such as bacterial respiratory infections. A recent study from U-M Medical School looked further into the cause of this susceptibly as well as the relationship between excessive scarring and infection.
