Researchers at the University of Michigan discuss their discovery of a fast brain rhythm that improves communication between the left and right brain as you run and dream. Known as “splines,” the rhythm mimics a back-and-forth game of neural ping pong in which the left brain and right brain communicate. The researchers highlight that this communication is even stronger during dream-like sleep, coordinating information and solidifying awake experiences into enhanced long-term memories.
