U-M Institute for Social Research professor of research and economist Richard Curtin discusses the decrease in consumer confidence due to “surging inflation” in the year ahead, most notably regarding homes, vehicles and household durables. Curtin notes, though, that the higher prices of these purchases will be offset by the increase in savings as well as improving job and wage prospects from this past year. The faculty expert further highlights research concerning the improved economic conditions and rising prices of products.
