Brenda Volling, a U-M psychologist, discusses the importance of a father’s role in a child’s emotional development. Volling explores how men have adapted to changes in their role and identity and the benefits of effective co-parenting, allowing fathers to share some of the domestic responsibilities. The faculty expert notes the decrease in behavioral and emotional problems when children are emotionally attached to both parents, explaining that families must work together to raise a child.
