The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that one in three patients who dies in a hospital has sepsis. Sepsis is an inflammatory response to an infection that causes organs to malfunction. However, sepsis can be hard to diagnose correctly. The current sepsis prediction model is utilized by more than half of hospitals and health systems in the United States, but it does not always accurately identify patients’ risks of sepsis according to a new study.
