Joanne Hsu, a U-M economist and director of the surveys discusses the declining consumer sentiment in May, falling over 10% and reverting to levels last seen in March of this year. Hsu notes that this decline is due to negative views regarding the overall economy, the current buying conditions for houses and durables, and other worries surrounding inflation. The faculty expert further highlights findings from the survey.
