U-M Ford School of Public Policy professor of public policy and Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy program Shobita Parthasarathy discusses policymaking biases, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Parthasarathy notes that these policies ignore poor and marginalized communities and benefit the privileged members of society. In terms of innovation regarding research funding, patent policies, and programs, these policies have limited the understanding of health disparities, and adds three ways in which the innovation policies serve citizens unequally.
