Of those who take blood pressure medications or have a health condition affected by hypertension, only 48% of people aged 50 to 80 regularly check their blood pressure at home or other places. This study conducted by University of Michigan researchers also found that only 62% of those who check their blood pressure at home were encouraged to perform such checks. Mellanie V. Springer, M.D., M.S., of the Michigan Medicine Department of Neurology, and Deborah Levine, M.D., M.P.H., of the Department of Internal Medicine, discuss blood monitoring and the future of checking blood pressure at home.
