Oliver Haimson, assistant professor at the U-M School of Information, discusses a study finding that marginalized users of online platforms, such as Reddit and Twitch, face disproportionate content removal as greater visibility means increased accountability. The social media platforms typically target marginalized groups, such as racial and gender minorities and queer people. The faculty expert highlights findings from the study, analyzing live chat and streaming involving women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people.
