Central Romania has the largest gold deposit in Europe and the third largest in the world. It also has deposits of copper, iron, lead, salt, sulfur, coal, manganese, and natural gas. Colin Quinn, archaeologist and then PhD candidate in the U-M Department of Anthropology, wanted to discover the history of the region and discusses the program he helped create in order to connect the community with its mining history.
