U-M School of Dentistry associate professor Alexandre DaSilva discusses the benefits of meditative mindful breathing in regard to health conditions, specifically pain. Looking at two types of meditative breathing, traditional and virtual 3D-guided, DaSilva notes that each lessened pain, though did so oppositely in the brain. The faculty expert highlights research from the study, explaining that virtual reality breathing is “more accessible” as it is a more immersive meditation experience compared to traditional that requires long-time attention and focus.
