U-M Institute for Social Research postdoctoral research fellow Jessica Finlay discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on social infrastructures, specifically “third places.” In this “Michigan Minds” podcast episode, Finlay explains how these “third places,” locations outside work and home where social gatherings occur, are being impacted by the virus as they are the “social glue” to society. With the mandated stay-at-home orders, these places in which people connect, gather, socialize, and support are no longer being frequented to stop the spread of the virus.
