Lydia Wileden, U-M Detroit Metro Area Communities Study research associate and co-author of a new report, discusses the stabilized or improved financial situation for many Detroit residents compared to last year. Wileden notes that stimulus checks and the expanded Child Tax Credit played a role in reducing economic hardship. However, the expert highlights that those with lower income, unemployed, renters, and parents were more likely to report a worse financial situation at the end of 2021 than a year earlier.
