In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down 50 years of abortion access by overturning Roe v. Wade. This in return, guaranteed those rights fall back to individual states. The use of “direct democracy” in six states allowed voters to take action on citizen-initiated and legislatively referred constitutional amendments, statutes, and referenda.
