In an article by Michigan Health Lab, researchers discuss workplace mistreatment in academic medicine, and its ability to impact a worker’s mental health. Researchers surveyed a total of 830 faculty members who received National Institutes of Health career development awards in 2006 – 2009, in which over 50% total discussed the disproportionalities targeting marginalized individuals. Reshma Jagsi, M.D., D.Phil., previously a professor of radiation oncology at Michigan Medicine, discusses the nature and frequency of harassment and the first step to transforming a culture and creating a healthy workplace.
