Alfred O. Hero, U-M John H. Holland Distinguished University Professor of electrical engineering and computer science, and Indika Rajapakse, computational medicine and bioinformatics associate professor co-led a study that looks at an immune-inspired defense system for neural networks – a subset of machine learning algorithms used for a wide variety of classification problems. The faculty experts developed the Robust Adversarial Immune-Inspired Learning System (RAILS) to protect neural networks from potential attacks. Hero and Rajapakse highlight the development process and future implications of RAILS.
