U-M diversity and social transformation professor of chemical engineering Omolola Eniola-Adefeso discusses the funding disparities between Black and white scientists. The faculty expert highlights that when Black researchers do not get funding, they are also not be able to get tenure or be promoted. Eniola-Adefeso also notes that society is not able to hear the creativity, perspectives, and knowledge from a diverse population, contributing to a “distrust of medicine and medical technology in the Black community,” especially during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding vaccines.
