Researchers at the U-M Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention have launched a significant effort to study all aspects of firearm injury and death in the U.S., with a recent focus on gun ownership, storage, and use among older adults. Patrick Carter, M.D., shared insights from his work with the institute at a recent event, highlighting three key areas for potential risk reduction. Carter suggests that more locked-storage assistance is needed along with tailored risk reduction approaches for those with memory and mental health concerns.
