A new poll from the University of Michigan seeks to understand the healthcare needs and preferences of Generation Z. According to the survey, unlike their parents, most members of Generation Z want their healthcare providers to ask about housing, food, education, safety and discrimination and offer information or referrals for services to address these concerns. The findings also suggest that today’s youth understand why these “social determinants of health” are important. Claire Chang, a U-M Medical School student and first author explores how addressing these needs would benefit patients.
