Jeffrey Minear, ’82, counselor to Chief Justice John Roberts, and the Hon. Jeffrey S. Sutton, chief judge of the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, were recently invited to Michigan Law to talk about the judicial system and the courts’ constitutional roles and responsibilities to the American government and its democratic institutions. Minear and Judge Sutton discussed a wide range of topics during the talk and debated the relevance and role of today’s US Supreme Court, beginning with its founding. This article highlights four key takeaways from the event.
