From redistricting to the economy to voter priorities, the UM Ford School faculty reflects on pertinent issues leading up to and following the midterm elections. They analyzed the roles of fracking, climate change, abortion, racial justice, education, etc., and discussed how these factors affected political campaigns as well as voters’ decisions. Jonathan Hanson, MPP program director and lecturer, finds the new districts “much more fair” and describes how redistricting impacted the election. Jenna Bednar, professor of Public Policy and Political Science, reflects on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s victory and discusses the importance of education in the race.
