U-M School of Public Health research fellow María Militzer and U-M researchers Paul Fleming and William Lopez discuss Mexiquenses en Michigan, a nonprofit, grassroots organization, and its impact on Washtenaw County during the coronavirus pandemic. Collaborating with the Washtenaw Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Ann Arbor, the non-profit helped provide financial support, cleaning supplies, educational materials and more to support families and the community during the pandemic. Militzer further explains her background, her community-engaged research, and what led her to Mexiquenses en Michigan.
