Crowdfunding Helps Pay the Bills During Cancer, but at a Price

A new study from the University of Michigan finds that while crowdfunding can provide financial support for individuals with cancer, it can also come at a personal cost of shame and stigma, particularly for young adults with cancer. The authors of the study describe the tension between the relief of receiving much-needed funds and the stigma of asking for help or the vulnerability of sharing personal information as the “Crowdfunding Compromise.”
