Older adults are opting to avoid seeking medical attention because of the fear of what emergency care may cost. The National Poll on Healthy Aging, based at the University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, found that older adults within certain demographics are likelier to have this course of action than others. In these scenarios of care postponement, emergency physicians such as Rachel Solnick, M.D., M.Sc., have seen patients come in in worse conditions due to economic fears.
