A recent study under Volker Sick, director of the Global CO2 Initiative and a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, explores carbon capture technologies that are ready to roll out, what is in the pipeline, and strategies for supporting the growth of CO2 capture, utilization, and storage. This study presents concrete and construction aggregates as two products that can be used to both reuse and store CO2 for the long term. Sick predicts that large amounts of carbon could be removed from the atmosphere each year if the capacity to make aggregates and concrete can be built.
