U-M mechanical engineering professor and corresponding author of the study in Nature Communications Wei Lu and mechanical engineering graduate student research assistant Changyu Deng discuss a newly developed algorithm that helps maximize the performance and efficiency of structures. Lu and Deng tested their algorithm in four optimization scenarios, ultimately reducing the computational time to reach the greatest solution by “roughly 100 to 100,000 times over traditional approaches…” outperforming all other algorithms.
