There is currently a critical blood shortage across the country. Robertson Davenport, MD, has been the director of the Blood Bank at U-M academic medical center for almost forty years and describes how he has not seen a shortage like this in his career. He discusses why blood is needed, blood products that are used, and why the shortage is occurring.
