Are black patients not receiving the adequate healthcare needed to ensure that they live longer? Recent data and studies, especially during the pandemic, shed light on the disparities that black patients receive to make sure that they are getting treated and obtaining the proper health care. Established in response to the growing opioid crisis, Michigan Medicine’s Rewrite the Script group has been studying opioid prescribing and utilization and making significant recommendations in practice to reduce opioid addiction. Paul Hilliard, the Rewrite the Script lead and associate professor of anesthesiology at the U-M Medical School, discusses the factors within the inpatient setting and what could occur before patients enter the hospital.
