A new study led by U-M researchers reveals an interesting relationship between the risk of viral illness and human brain alertness and reaction time. Alfred Hero, the John H. Holland Distinguished University Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at U-M and corresponding author of the study, explains how one’s cognitive performance before exposure to a respiratory virus can predict the severity of the infection.
