The city of Detroit enacted eviction prevention measures during the pandemic to provide aid and ease stress during an unprecedented time. However, some landlords in Detroit found loopholes within the measures that allowed them to carry out evictions. According to court data analysis by researchers at the University of Michigan, nearly 90% of eviction cases filed in Detroit during the pandemic came from landlords whose properties did not comply with the city’s rental ordinance.
