The LEAD Scholars Program helps to uphold the tradition of excellence and commitment to diversity that has made U-M a global leader in education.
As a LEAD Scholars mentor, you can share your unique U-M experience along with the details of your career and life path since earning your degree. Our goal is to provide each scholar with an alumni mentor who can help that student realize his or her full potential—beginning as an undergraduate and continuing after graduation.
We ask each volunteer to:
- Contact your mentee at least once per month (in person, by email or phone), or more frequently if needed or requested by the mentee.
- Discuss both your and the mentee’s goals and expectations of the ongoing relationship.
- Review the LEAD Mentor toolkit we’ll provide you with, which contains valuable information on all of the Alumni Association’s student programs and services so that you can encourage your Scholar to take advantage of these resources.
- Provide feedback to the Alumni Association staff each semester on the student’s progress and the status of the mentor-mentee relationship.
We also encourage participation in our “Dinner with 5 Wolverines” program. This is a great opportunity for LEAD Scholars to have dinner with five alumni at a local Ann Arbor restaurant.
