Student Research

The Alumni Association is pleased to help current U-M students with academic research and projects by providing a convenient way to get their requests out to large numbers of alumni. In addition to helping out students with important research, alumni can also get a feel for what areas students are investigating.

Current projects are listed below. Check back in the future for more projects.

COLON CANCER PREVENTION STUDY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

The U-M Healthy Eating for Colon Cancer Prevention Study is an exciting area of research on the relationships between health and diet. The study aims to see how a person’s diet can improve health, especially as related to reducing the risk of colon cancer.

The long-term goal of this research is to help develop diets for colon cancer prevention. This study compares the Mediterranean diet to the Healthy People 2010 diet which recommends healthy eating for Americans. The study is being conducted through the University of Michigan and is supported by the National Institutes of Health.

All study participants will have had polyps or colon cancer or have a family history of colon cancer. Participants will be asked to complete visits at the beginning, 3 and 6 months. A dietitian will work closely with each participant, in person and over the phone.
