DAY 1 ~ IN TRANSIT
Depart for Cairo, Egypt (provided for AHI FlexAir participants).
DAY 2 ~ CAIRO
Upon arrival, transfer to the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza.
DAY 3 ~ CAIRO
Excursion: Egyptian Museum. See the world’s richest collection of Egyptian artifacts at the Egyptian Museum. Marvel at articles from Tutankhamen’s tomb.
Later, gather with your fellow travelers for a Welcome Reception at the hotel.
DAY 4 ~ GIZA/SAKKARA
Excursion: The Pyramids of Giza and Sakkara. Visit Giza, the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx, the Solar Boat Museum and the new Papyrus Institute.
Local Flavor: Relax during lunch at a local restaurant.
Excursion: Sakkara. In Sakkara, visit the Tomb of Kagemni, the Pyramid Tomb of King Teki, and the Step Pyramid of Djoser.
DAY 5 ~ CAIRO
Excursion: Islamic and Coptic Cairo. Experience the city’s religious heritage during visits to the Mosque of Mohammed Ali and the Royal Mosque of Al-Rifai. See the Hanging Church, St. Sergius and Ben Ezra Synagogue. Later, explore Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Local Flavor: Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.
Independent Exploration: Explore the colorful and exhilarating Khan el Khalili bazaar.
DAY 6 ~ CAIRO/LUXOR
This morning, fly to Luxor.
Excursion: Luxor Museum. Discover ancient artifacts recovered from the area of Thebes.
Continue to the Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor.
Excursion: The Temple of Luxor. Board a traditional felucca and sail to Luxor Temple. Begun in 1414 B.C. by Amenhotep III, additions were added through the centuries until 323 B.C.
DAY 7 ~ LUXOR/VALLEYS OF THE KINGS AND QUEENS
This morning, check out of the hotel.
Excursion: Luxor’s West Bank. Travel to the Valleys of the Kings and Queens. Visit the tomb of Tutankhamen. View the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and marvel at the impressive Colossi of Memnon. Later, embark the Sonesta St. George I.
Excursion: Oriental Institute Chicago House. During an exclusive visit, learn about the institute’s method of searching, discovering, and restoring ancient treasures.
DAY 8 ~ KARNAK/CRUISING
Excursion: The Temple of Karnak. Journey to Karnak, one of the largest religious complexes in the world. Dedicated to the gods Montu, Amon and Mut, the site remains a testament to Egypt’s grand history.
This afternoon, cruise the Nile River and pass through Esna Lock.
DAY 9 ~ EDFU/KOM OMBO
Excursion: The Temple of Horus at Edfu. Visit Edfu and the Temple of Horus. Recognized for its unique roof, the temple was entirely buried until the mid-19th century. Later, enjoy a question-and-answer session with an Egyptologist.
Excursion: Temple of Sobek and Haroeris. Discover the double Temple of Sobek and Haroeris, a unique temple complex that it has an unusual layout unifying two adjacent temples. One is dedicated to Sobek, god of fertility, and the other, Haroeris, god of the sky.
DAY 10 ~ ASWAN/ABU SIMBEL
Fly from Aswan to Abu Simbel.
Excursion: Abu Simbel. Marvel at the Temple of Ramses II and the neighboring Temple of Hathor.
Fly back to Aswan. Tonight, enjoy a Farewell Reception and Dinner on board the ship.
DAY 11 ~ ASWAN/CAIRO
This morning, disembark the ship.
Excursion: Temple of Philae and Aswan High Dam. Board a felucca and sail to the island temple complex of Philae. Continue to the High Dam.
Later, fly to Cairo, then check in to the InterContinental Citystars Cairo. The rest of the evening is at leisure.
DAY 12 ~ IN TRANSIT
Transfer to the airport for the return flight to your gateway city.
