Biology and physics were entirely separate disciplines until Bronk formulated the theory underlying biophysics. An educator who was a dean at Swarthmore and president of Johns Hopkins University, Rockefeller University, and the National Academy of Sciences, Bronk was also an adviser to Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy.
