MEET THE 2016 FRESHMAN LEAD SCHOLARS

Their chosen fields are as diverse as their stories— From medicine to business and the stage to the vast reaches of space, they stand united in their bond as LEAD Scholars. We welcome each of the 50 incoming LEAD Scholars as they begin a journey that will educate, enrich, and enlighten themselves, their peers, and the University. As a graduate of Huron High School, Taylor participated in many extracurricular activities, including basketball, golf, and the school’s choir ensemble.

Musical Theatre | School of Music, Theatre & Dance

As a graduate of Pebblebrook High School, Maya was heavily involved in the school’s theatrical productions.

Jameel Bisumber

Sterling Heights, Michigan
Engineering | UM-Flint

As a graduate of Sterling Heights High School, Jameel played on the football and baseball teams, and was involved in the National Honor Society and in volunteer work, including Christmas in Action, an organization that provides hope and action to the low-income elderly and disabled in communities across the country.

Gabrielle Brathwaite

Westbury, New York

As a graduate of Westbury High School, Gabrielle was a flutist in the school’s band program. She was also treasurer of Student Council, vice president of the National Honor Society, and co-captain of her softball team.

TaNisha Cameron

As a graduate of Advanced Tech Academy, TaNisha was a member of the softball team and National Junior Honor Society. She was awarded the President’s Award for Educational Achievement for graduating top of her class.

As a graduate of Franklin Road Christian School, Alanah was a member of the school’s varsity softball team and jazz band. Alanah has also done humanitarian work in Spain and the Dominican Republic.

As a graduate of Cass Technical High School, Edward is extremely passionate about technology. Although video games are Edward’s main focus, he would like to explore other areas in software development.

As a graduate of Douglas County High School, Jovany was heavily involved in the musical arts as a member of his school’s marching band and wind symphony. Jovany was also a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Model UN.

A graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Lauryn intends on majoring in theatre arts at the School of Music, Theatre, & Dance. She hopes to be a leader in the film industry by advocating for more diversity in cinematic works and creating new works and pieces that need minorities.
