Student-Athlete of the Month: Kylee Botterman
Hometown: New Lenox, Illinois What do you plan to do after you graduate? I’m not positive yet—hopefully get a nice apartment and a successful job in downtown Chicago. What attracted you to U-M? The campus buildings, the tradition, and the welcome feeling from the girls on the gymnastics team. How would your teammates describe you? Outgoing. What is your favorite moment in each meet? Running off an event after I salute to my teammates who are congratulating me. What goes through your head before a meet? I get really excited and I'm just happy I get to compete in another meet. Someone will usually have to help me relax and stay calm because I get so pumped up! What are your best and/or worst moments in your sport so far in college? The best moment was at Eastern—one judge gave me a 10 and the other a 99.5. Knowing that a 10 is possible at any meet has pushed me harder to see that score from both judges. Also, as a team, getting our first 197 of the season at NC State! What do you consider your greatest accomplishment of your athletic career? Definitely my scholarship to Michigan. I am here giving my best, and hopefully in the next four years I can experience my greatest accomplishment with my Michigan teammates! Have you had to overcome any difficult obstacles this season? My ankles are always sore, so I’m just taking care of them, but nothing serious. What advice would you share with up-and-coming Michigan gymnasts? Be prepared mentally and physically. What you do now in gym is going to affect your performance here. Get excited, because it is going to be the best time of your life! |
