How may I use inCircle to find a job?
- If you are interested in locating job postings for a specific company, input the company’s name into the key word search box. Next, search the results to see if anyone in your network works for the company. If someone in your network already works for the company, you may contact him/her directly. If a Michigan alumnus that is not in your network works there, reach out to that person, introduce yourself as a fellow U-M alumnus and ask for advice or insight on the company. We think you’ll be surprised by how helpful Wolverines are to one another!
- Post your resume in your business profile.
- Look for Michigan alumni in the inCircle network who have indicated they are willing to talk to others about career information and use them as a resource.
How may I use inCircle to find a friend from college?
First, type the individual’s name in the key word search box. Use the full name; nicknames are not included in the database. If the keyword search does not produce the contact you are looking for then try the advance search function using more detailed criteria including class year, major, city, etc.

What if I am unable to locate the individual I’m searching for?
Be sure to search by the individual’s given name. You are unable to search for an individual by a nickname on inCircle (e.g., search for Joseph Blue, not Joe Blue). If using the individual’s full name does not work, try the advanced search function using more detailed criteria including class year and major.
If the individual you are looking for is a very recent graduate (within the last year), it is possible the registrar has not updated this individual’s record yet. In that case, check back in a month to see if the person has appeared in the inCircle database.
If you are still unable to find a specific individual, we recommend you try using the Alumni Association’s Alumni Locater Service.

What do the black icons with waving people next to a person’s name mean?
These icons indicate how you may know an individual. One waving icon means the contact is your friend (someone you know directly). Two waving icons indicate the contact is a friend-of-friend and three waving icons mean the individual is a friend-of-friend-of-friend.

May I choose how much personal information I share?

Is it possible to prevent someone from contacting me?
Yes. Use the search tool to locate the individual you would like to block. Click on his/her name. To the left of the name, select “Block User.” Selecting this option will prevent that person from contacting you.

I only want certain people to contact me. How do I manage my privacy settings?

I invited a friend and she didn’t respond to my invitation. Is it possible to re-invite her?
Yes. In order to re-invite someone, click on “My Network” and then on “Manage/Delete Friends.” Next to the individual’s name, you will be able to see their status. “Expired” means it has been more than 30 days since you invited her to join your network without a response.
