Find a Mentor

Looking for career advice? Trying to break into a new industry, but not sure how? Ask an U-M alumnus for his or her advice!

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan’s Alumni NetWorks program connects current students and members at any career stage to U-M alumni mentors eager and willing to provide valuable information and career counseling to future and fellow Michigan graduates.

Locate a mentor through Alumni NetWorks in just three easy steps:

  1. Agree to the Alumni NetWorks terms and conditions.
  2. Complete and submit the search form.
  3. Contact your potential mentors to set up your informational meeting.

How does it work?

The Alumni NetWorks system will use your criteria to comb through the Alumni Association’s comprehensive mentor database and provide you with your best possible matches. Remember, the more details you provide about yourself and your desired career specialty, the more accurately the Alumni Association is able to match you with an appropriate mentor. Once the system produces your results, you will receive an e-mail with your potential mentors – contact information.

It is your responsibility to make the initial contact with your mentor! For tips and tools to help make the most of your mentor interaction, check out our free resources including a sample introductory letter!

Don’t forget, mentors are not just for students or new grads. If you’re an established professional interviewing at a new firm, faced with a transfer or a promotion into a new job area, or thinking about a career change, use Alumni NetWorks to locate a mentor who might be able to answer your questions or help ease your concerns.

Alumni NetWorks Terms and Conditions

Mentors are volunteers who serve U-M and the Alumni Association by providing you with career information and advice as part of an informational interview. Although some may also indicate in their profiles that they are willing to talk to you about job shadowing or internship opportunities, they usually do not participate in Alumni NetWorks to recruit new employees.

It is inappropriate to infer or expect that any mentor has or should have a job opportunity for you. It is also inappropriate to use this service for any purpose other than the receipt of career advice.

I agree to the Alumni NetWorks terms and conditions. Please start searching for my mentor!
