Be a Mentor

student looking at art

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan offers several ways for alumni to give back to the University of Michigan community. Becoming a mentor and participating in the Alumni NetWorks program is one easy way U-M alumni can share their life experiences and talents with current students and fellow alumni.

The Alumni Association is looking for mentors in all careers and industries, regardless of whether or not you are a member of the Alumni Association, and encourages successful U-M graduates to become mentors.

Signing up to be a mentor is an easy process!

  1. Agree to the Alumni NetWorks Terms and Conditions for Mentors
  2. Complete and submit the registration form.
  3. Wait to hear from your potential mentees. It is their responsibility to make the initial contact.

Being a mentor can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and with Alumni NetWorks Mentor you control your level of involvement in the program. But remember – the more details you provide about yourself, career and industry, the more accurately the Alumni Association is able to match you with a mentee looking for your expertise.

For advice on structuring informational interviews with the mentees that contact you, review our Guidelines for Mentors.

Alumni NetWorks Terms and Conditions for Mentors

The Alumni Association asks all mentors to have at least one informational interview conversation – via e-mail, phone or in person – with each mentee that contacts you.

As a mentor you agree to allow the Alumni Association to contact you periodically to see how your mentoring experience is going, ask if you would like to continue your service as a mentor and verify your contact information is correct.

I agree to the Alumni NetWorks Terms and Conditions. Sign me up to be a mentor!
