How Michigan Apprentice Works

  • Michigan Apprentice is open to U-M juniors and seniors from the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses.
  • Those selected will shadow their alums for one day at their company or organization. For companies located in other regions, travel and two nights of hotel expenses will be paid by AAUM.
  • You can apply by completely filling out and submitting the online application by Wednesday, March 26.
  • Timeline:
    • Applications accepted: Wednesday, March 26, at midnight EST.
    • Finalists announced: Thursday, March 27.
      • A committee of Alumni Association staff members will determine the finalists. Three finalists for each apprenticeship will be selected. The finalists will be contacted by phone and email and will be announced on www.umalumni.com and through e-TrueBlue: Ann Arbor Campus and e-TrueBlue: Seniors.
    • Finalist interviews: on Tuesday, April 1, Wednesday , April 2 .
      • Winners will be determined by three factors:
        • Application: 25%
        • Interview: 50%
        • Online Voting: 25%
      • Finalists will be interviewed by a panel made up of AAUM staff, alumni and at least one of last year's Michigan Apprentice winners. Interview questions will be the same for all applicants in the same mentor category, but may differ for different mentors. Questions will not be released in advance of the interviews.
      • Online voting will be open to anyone who has a University-assigned uniqname and password.
    • Winners announced: Wednesday, April 3.
    • Winners will have a set amount of time (up to 8 weeks) to complete their one day experience.
    • Winners that are traveling will be allowed two hotel nights if warranted.
    • Each winner will will agree to create a blog and document his or her experience, with a minimum of four blog entries, and follow a schedule of blog entry dates. AAUM will feature the blogs on our www.umalumni.com and in e-newsletters.
