Take advantage of the Alumni Association’s networking opportunities at any career stage, and join us for a series of career-focused events across the country. Career events provide U-M alumni with the opportunity to gain valuable insight into today’s professional world through dynamic sessions with some of the best career experts available.

In addition to the information provided by the career event speakers, these networking events give U-M alumni the opportunity to:

  • Learn the latest workplace trends and discuss key topics

Michigan Professionals Group

The monthly meeting of Michigan Professionals will take place at 7 a.m. on May 9th, 2012. If you haven’t yet heard about us, Michigan Professionals is a U of M alumni group specifically focused on no frills business networking. We don’t schmooze or aimlessly wander from one person to the next in these meetings; this is hard core networking for those who want to build their businesses and increase their bottom line. Breakfast will be served. Please plan on arriving at 6:45 a.m. as there was a huge backup in the lobby at the last meeting.

Coaches’ Luncheon Special for Members: If you are a PAID MEMBER of the Professional Networking Group and will be in attendance at the April and May breakfast you will have the opportunity at those meetings to buy general admission priced tickets for Coaches’ Luncheon and the PRO-Network Group will upgrade you to be seated with them at their reserved VIP table. Bring a check made out to the University of Michigan Alumni Club of Los Angeles to the next Pro-Networking meeting.

Networking: Speed Dating for Your Career

The speaker will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. Light appetizers will be provided. Cash bar available. Dress is business cocktail. Parking in the Bank of America building will be validated for up to two hours.

Professional development speakers Jennifer Eggers and Diane Crompton will lead us in a lively discussion of networking in today’s world.

This event is targeted to people just starting their careers, those looking for a position, those employed, and those who are looking for their second or third career (in other words, this session has broad based relevance). Our professional development event will be focused on in-person and online networking “juice to boost your career.” Topics to include:

• Defining Networking — dos & don’ts.
• Knowing your audience.
• Developing your strategy.
• In-Person Networking: “Tricks of the Date” – conversation cues & your “30 second commercial”.

Our topic will be – Using Cloud Based Technologies To Assist In Running Your Business- The Sky’s The Limit!

The Cloud has become part of our everyday life, both personally and professionally. The Cloud can be used for marketing, networking, advertising and operational improvements within your organization. Lee Flake, U-M alumnus and Principal at Rehmann, will discuss the benefits of using the Cloud for business applications. Please join us as Lee leads a presentation on how to use the Cloud for business, the benefits of using the Cloud and how to implement new Cloud based strategies in your business.

Lunch will be provided.

Due to the generosity of our hosts, Lee Flake and Rehmann, the cost of the event is a nominal $5, which will go toward the U of M Club of Greater Detroit’s Scholarship Fund.

Wolverines in the Workplace Panel Discussion & Networking Series: Health Care

Details: Join us as we continue our series highlighting different industries that will benefit our entire Michigan Chicagoland Alumni Community. This event will feature a panel of prominent individuals who have a background in providing services in the health care industry. Each panelist will each give an overview of their practice, background that led them into their careers and offer their thoughts on the current trends and challenges shaping our health care industry. Members of the panel will also participate in a Q&A session with engaging discussion, comments and questions from the audience. Appetizers & beverages will be provided. Our speakers will include:

Dr. Mark Gendleman – Dermatologist
Mr. Gendleman graduated from the University of Michigan in 1966. He completed medical school and his dermatology residency at Northwestern University. After a 2-year military obligation, he started a dermatology practice in Evanston in 1977. He continues to practice in Evanston. Mark has served as president of both the Illinois Dermatological Society and the Chicago Dermatological Society. He was division head of dermatology at Evanston Hospital and Vice-chairman of the dermatology department at Northwestern University. He has been active in the teaching of dermatology to medical students and medical residents since he began his practice.

Ninef Aghakhan – Director of Business Relations, Visiting Angels for Milwaukee County, Wisconsin
Mr. Aghakhan is the owner of Visiting Angels franchise for Milwaukee county, Wisconsin. Previously Mr. Aghakhan has contributed over eleven years in sales/management within Fortune 500 companies including Pfizer (formerly Wyeth) pharmaceuticals, Medtronic and C.R. Bard. Mr. Aghakhan is a University of Michigan alum and previously served as the University of Michigan Club of Greater Chicago’s president.

Dr. Keith Sarpolis – Internist, North Shore Physicians Group
