by Gary HeitmanI am amazed everyday when job seekers come to see me in Ann Arbor and have no clue what LinkedIn is. It is no longer what you know or who you know - it is who do they know and who knows them. It is called building a network, and we all have them. Those we tailgate with on Saturdays are a network; those you go to church with on Sunday are a network; those you enjoy coffee with during the week are a network. They all know other people besides us and maybe, just maybe, they could know someone that may help us find a job.
If you are worried about your privacy (this isn't Facebook or Myspace) or making mistakes, don't be. The community on LinkedIn is there to help you not enjoy you slipping on a banana peel and laughing.
If you are new to LinkedIn and want to connect to someone, feel free to connect to me. I will provide advice (be ready for brutally honest) and some assistance if I can. Good luck networking - it will help you find a job!
