I am amazed everyday when job seekers come to see me in Ann Arbor and have no clue what LinkedIn is. It is no longer what you know or who you know - it is who do they know and who knows them. It is called building a network, and we all have them. Those we tailgate with on Saturdays are a network; those you go to church with on Sunday are a network; those you enjoy coffee with during the week are a network. They all know other people besides us and maybe, just maybe, they could know someone that may help us find a job.
If you are worried about your privacy (this isn't Facebook or Myspace) or making mistakes, don't be. The community on LinkedIn is there to help you not enjoy you slipping on a banana peel and laughing.
If you are new to LinkedIn and want to connect to someone, feel free to connect to me. I will provide advice (be ready for brutally honest) and some assistance if I can. Good luck networking - it will help you find a job!
