Book: Ortho-Millennialism: Bringing Order to End-Time Chaos

About the Book

Have you struggled with nagging questions about the end times? Have false end-time predictions left you wary and wondering? Do you want to know what your Bible really says about this? Fact #1: Twenty-five percent of the New Testament references the end times. Fact #2: Eschatology, after Salvation, is the second most frequently mentioned doctrine of the New Testament. Fact #3: The doctrines of salvation and eschatology are linked together in God's eternal plan for mankind. Consequently, understanding the end times is critical to understanding the New Testament! Ortho-Millennialism: Bringing Order to End-Time Chaos offers the key to unlocking these mysteries. By building on the foundation of what the first century church believed and learning how to apply this knowledge to the present, the book provides a historical, theologically rich, and yet practical look at the end times.

Book: Performing Sex: The Making and Unmaking of Women's Erotic Lives

About the Book

Although conventional wisdom holds that women in the United States today are more sexually liberated than ever before, a number of startling statistics call into question this perceived victory: over half of all women report having faked orgasms; 45 percent of women find rape fantasies erotic; a growing number of women perform same-sex eroticism for the viewing benefit of men; and recent clinical studies label 40 percent of women as "sexually dysfunctional." Caught between postsexual revolution celebrations of progress and alarmingly regressive new modes of disempowerment, the forty women interviewed in Performing Sex offer a candid and provocative portrait of "liberated" sex in America.

Book: Society of the Dead: Quita Manaquita and Palo Praise in Cuba

About the Book

In a riveting first-person account, Todd Ramón Ochoa explores Palo, a Kongo-inspired "society of affliction" that is poorly understood at the margins of Cuban popular religion. As Ochoa comes to terms with a world in which everyday events and materials are composed of the dead, Ochoa discovers unexpected resources for understanding the relationship between matter and spirit, for rethinking anthropology's rendering of sorcery, and for representing the play of power in Cuban society. Society of the Dead draws upon recent critiques of Western metaphysics as it reveals what this little known practice can tell us about sensation, transformation, and redemption in the Black Atlantic.

Todd Ramon Ochoa is a cultural anthropologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
