Student Recruitment Calendar

Are you interested in recruiting the top students in your area to attend U-M but you’re not sure of the time commitments and activities involved? For an overview of projected activities, review the month-by-month calendar below. If you have any additional questions on the program, please contact Phyllis Taylor at phtaylor@umich.edu or 734.764.2316.

September – October

  • Review the Alumni Student Recruitment Handbook
  • Deliver the “M Go Blue” packet (we will supply) with your completed high school introduction letter to your adopted high school(s). This meeting should last approximately 15 minutes. If you are unable to meet with the counselor, drop the packet off and leave the introduction letter (attaching it to the folder).
  • Assist with local college fair (ASR staff will contact you, if needed) or make a brief presentation to students at your adopted school (alert ASR staff to request materials and/or utilize online resources).

November – December

  • Answer calls/questions from prospective students and encourage students from your adopted school to apply to U-M.

January – March

  • Receive several rosters of admitted students. Make congratulatory calls and send postcards, letters or emails to encourage students to enroll.
  • Each One, Reach One volunteers “called to action” to contact admitted underrepresented students.

April

  • Make a second contact to all admitted students. If you have the resources, offer to meet for coffee or dessert with the student and his/her parents to discuss what your U-M degree has meant to you. Talk informally about the University and encourage the student to attend the Campus Day program.
  • Work with the local U-M alumni club and/or other Adopt-a-School and Each One, Reach One volunteers to organize a reception for admitted students. This will help to convert admitted students to enrolled students before the May 1st deadline.

May – August

  • Work with the local U-M alumni club and/or other Adopt-a-School and Each One, Reach One volunteers to organize a summer send-off picnic, brunch, or reception for incoming students from your area.

June

  • Update contact information and add/delete schools for next year.
