David Porter has taught in the departments of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan since 1996. He holds graduate degrees from Cambridge and Stanford, and has published two books on European responses to Chinese culture in the early modern period. He has lived and worked in China for two years and is the founder of the Chinese language software company Clavis Sinica. He has participated on one other AAUM travel program to the Scottish Highlands.
