The leadership and generosity of 5th week campers Verne and Judy Istock has given us the boost we need to make the new building a reality by summer 2010. By creating the Dining Hall Gift Challenge, the Istocks hope to inspire other families to make gifts that will quickly raise an additional $1 million.
The match details:
- The challenge matches, dollar for dollar, gifts of $10,000 or more, up to $1 million
- Gifts can be pledged up to five years
- A gift letter or agreement must be signed
- Multi-generational families may combine resources into one gift agreement to qualify for the match
- Commitments should be made by December

| $25,000 | $5,000 a year for five years |
| $50,000 | $10,000 a year for five years |
| $100,000 | $20,000 a year for five years |
Camp Michigania’s Dining Hall
Campers like you know the dining hall is the heart of Camp Michigania. It houses the camp store and the lounge and is the backdrop for camper introductions, staff skits and awards. It provides a place to meet with your family and enjoy a wonderful meal and brings campers together to celebrate the week’s memories each Friday at Keg and Koke.
While it’s a vital part of camp, at 80 years old, the dining hall has begun to show its age:
- Multiple additions and renovations complicate maintenance and have made the electrical and plumbing infrastructure insufficient.
- The dining hall that was originally designed to serve 200 people now serves 500 each meal and seats only 260. We face capacity issues and food preparation challenges on a daily basis.
- The building also houses two restrooms that serve more than 500 people three times a day, equaling safety, comfort and code issues.
Over the last several years, architects and planners have worked hard to develop the best possible plan for a new, efficient and comfortable dining hall that maintains the character and charm of camp.
Improvements include safety systems, better ventilation, acoustics and traffic flow, accessible bathrooms, increased dining and deck space and more. The Dining Hall Gift Challenge was established to raise funds to support this plan.
