Camp Michigania provides University of Michigan Alumni Association members and their families a unique setting for educational and recreational experiences, promoting connections among current and future alumni with the University and each other. The original site is located on Walloon Lake near Petoskey in Northern Michigan and hosts summer, fall and winter events. A second site has been added in New York’s Adirondack Mountains for summer activities.
Owned and operated by the Alumni Association, Michigania has been a popular destination for University of Michigan families since 1961. Each year since its inception, Memorial Day work weekend brings committed volunteers to camp, helping open the facility for the upcoming summer.
As the popularity of the camp has grown, additional cabins have been built and the summer season has been extended. Each week the camp welcomes approximately 100 families to the shores of Walloon.
In addition to Michigania on Walloon Lake, the Alumni Association launched an alumni camping program in upstate New York in 1973. Using the facilities of Pointe O’Pines, a private girls’ camp, Michigania-East can accommodate approximately 50 families during each of its sessions at the end of August.
